2. telegram No. 458 liay 21st to Governor of Hong Kong and latter's despatch of June 5th to me. Salary tax of Doughty.

I approached External Affairs informally on July 9th and have now received reply drawing attention to the fact that members of the United Kingdom Public Service serving in Canada in a position similar to (corrupt group ?Doughty) are exempt from tax of this sort by the Canadian Government.

Department suggest this aspect of the question be considered further before the Department concerned are asked to review the case,
